Project Rebound Community Voices: Phoenix Art Installation ~ June 2023
Working with students in the Project Rebound program at Cal State Stanislaus, the Phoenix sculpture was made as a symbol of the program and its students. Each feather in the sculpture is hand stamped using traditional metal tooling techniques from Pre-Columbian art traditions to modern day LatinX artwork, such as Hojalatas. Each feathers words come from a student in the program, as advice, a poem, or a reflection, as part of the purpose of the artmaking and for future students to look at.
The sculpture was part of a masters thesis/project in art/education at Cal State Stan. June 12th, 2023 the final Phoenix sculpture was installed in the university's Project Rebound student Lounge. https://www.calstate.edu/impact-of-the-csu/student-success/project-rebound
